So you’ve been arrested or given a notice to appear in court…

If in Criminal Court

The next step is your Arraignment, commonly confused with the first appearance, which is the initial hearing given to persons arrested within the last 24 hours, usually taking place at the jail.

NOTE: Generally, If you hire your own lawyer before the Arraignment you DO NOT have to attend your arraignment. Also, there are many other court appearances which your attorney can attend without you. Please call our office to see if the county in which you are charged falls under these rules.
